About Fresh Start Furniture Bank:
Fresh Start Furniture Bank is a volunteer-based charity that provides free furniture and home goods to economically disadvantaged families and individuals. This year alone, we will furnish 700+ households with 35,000 items, most of which were donated by the public.
Position Summary:
Fresh Start is seeking an experienced leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of our distribution center. This is a hands-on position, working side-by-side with our volunteers and corporate partners. The ideal candidate must be energetic, an effective communicator, able to solve problems quickly, and have strong organizational and documentation skills to keep the warehouse in order.
Key Responsibilities:
Distribution Center Operations:
- Manage store opening & closing procedures with other on-site staff.
- Set daily shift priorities.
- Oversee daily operations and resolve any issues that arise.
- Develop and implement process improvements and update documentation when needed.
- Develop and maintain a safety training program.
- Monitor inventory levels, review online inventory, and complete cycle counts.
- Communicate inventory needs to the social media team.
- Help develop new supply and work with existing supply chain partners for bulk furniture donations.
- Order supplies and mattresses and receive deliveries.
Call Center (a highly automated system for handling incoming calls):
- Oversee the donations call center volunteer team.
- Monitor the weekend pick-up schedule and set the transport route.
Other Duties:
- Manage vendor payments for mattresses and platform frames.
- Collobrate with the Volunteer Coordinator on staffing levels needed.
- Participate in community events.
- Analyze data to assist in long term planning in collaboration with other staff members.
- Monthly progress reports.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, or related experience.
- Proven track record of managing a diverse group of volunteers or employees.
- Experience as an operations manager or in a similar role.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and self-starting.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Must have Internet connection at home.
- Ability to manage budgets effectively.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Work Location and Hours:
- Onsite work, approximately 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, plus two Saturdays per month. Additional on-site hours may be necessary depending on workload.
- Additional remote hours can be worked using our online systems.
