This October gathering hosted by the MetroWest Nonprofit Network provided new and long time colleagues an opportunity to share stories, new adventures and a few laughs.

Our Gathering for Good even was organized to supported Rise Above in their efforts to distribute College Care Packages. These care packs were sent to 600 Massachusetts youth who grew up in foster care, defying the odds by attending college.

This program was a joint partnership of Rise Above Foundation and MetroWest Nonprofit Network with generous support from Framingham State University. Learn more about Rise Above Foundation on their website.

These gatherings are a chance to share issues, exchange ideas, discuss challenges and strategies and support each other. 17 12:00 pm: Lone Rangers 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm April 17, 2024 The “Lone Rangers” brings together nonprofit leaders from a diverse mix of single-staffed or small-staffed organizations in a casual, yet confidential, environment to share issues and exchange ideas. The result is a unique peer learning experience. It’s a perfect opportunity for you to ask questions, share information and strategies, and network and support one another! 24 12:00 pm: Lunch and Learn: Dignity in Food Choice 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm April 24, 2024 Description: Join us for a lunch and learn panel discussion on cultivating positive, respectful, culturally appropriate food access experiences. Our panelists will help us consider the importance of fresh, diverse, and local options; the challenges around donations vs demand; and resources and strategies that help navigate this critical community engagement. Storytelling is one of the most valuable skills for any nonprofit professional and an important vehicle for honoring and empowering diverse voices in your community. In this fun, interactive workshop: Learn the most essential elements of any compelling story and how to apply them across all communication channels. Explore how storytelling advances diversity, equity, and inclusion goals within your organization and the broader community; Discover how to engage diverse voices thoughtfully and avoid exploitation or unintentional harm. Deepen your connections with fellow nonprofit professionals through exchanging personal stories related to culture, identity, and belonging. PRESENTERS Cheryl Hamilton has devoted her career to advancing more inclusive communities and storytelling. As the founder and Executive director of Stellar Story Company, Cheryl brings more than 20 years of experience directing local and national nonprofit programs serving refugee and immigrant populations. She is also the creator and director of Suitcase Stories, a program that features stories of global migration. Cheryl has coached over 1000 people from 80 countries to tell their stories. A Colombian native, Lorena Hernández Leonard is a storyteller, writer, and story coach and instructor with Stellar Story Company. Lorena is a Latinx culture expert with 20 years of experience in the marketing and communications industry. She’s the creator of Gritty Girl, a project that highlights immigrant stories and galvanizes BIPOC women to build resilience and grit. She has appeared on Stories From the Stage and is currently working on a memoir about her experiences growing up during the Colombian drug war and migrating to the United States.
