FRAMINGHAM, Mass. —

When Boston Marathon runners hit Framingham, they’ll be greeted by passionate supporters proud to cheer on everyone, especially those from the city.

“I think Framingham will be my fastest pace throughout the whole day,” Framingham police officer Tim Mangano said.

Framingham Assistant Fire Chief John Schulz agreed.

“There’s nothing better,” he said. “That’s what I look forward to.”

Schultz and Mangano are putting in the miles for the Boston Marathon and for good causes.

“I wasn’t really expecting to get in,” Mangano said. “But it was a challenge I wanted to take on.”

Mangano is running for the MetroWest Nonprofit Network.

“It’s an organization that helps the local nonprofits,” he said. “It helps get resources they need in order to become successful.”

For Schultz, the Jewish Family Service of Metrowest caught his eye.

“I got to see firsthand, and it fit,” he said. “It kind of popped.”

“He saw us in action helping asylum-seekers in Framingham,” Lino Covarrucia, CEO of Jewish Family Services of Metrowest, said. “He was like, ‘Who are these people? They’re fantastic!’”

Jewish Family Services of Metrowest is one of the five charities chosen to be part of Team Framingham.

“The money our runners raise really makes a huge impact for what they can do and the impact they can have,” Jen Feaster, who’s been part of Team Framingham for years, said.

The group raises money for charities in Framingham, selected through a lottery each year.

The town’s runners train for the marathon while raising money for one of the charities.

“Since 2014, Team Framingham has raised close to one million dollars for Framingham-focused charities,” Feaster said.

This year, 25 people will run on Team Framingham, raising money for the charities supporting their community.
